Fly the Unfriendly Skies
Got weekend travel plans? News Detectives looks at Air Travel Cancellations - Gas Prices - Crazy Airline Passengers - Dangers at Yellowstone and a True American Hero "Tops" Tom ;)
Every weekend we see reports of massive flight cancelations across the U.S.
Unfortunately, this holiday weekend is looking no different.
The Hill reports there are already 1800 flights canceled during the Independence Day holiday weekend - which doesn’t make Americans feel overly independent or free.
But if you don’t mind the longer travel time, you could always hit the road in your car.
Oh yeah. Scratch that idea. Never mind.
Speaking of gas prices…
I found an article on a sports website published on June 27, What are gas prices in the U.S. and each state? This will give you an idea of where gas prices are at around the country - give or take a cent or two.
As of last Monday, the U.S. national gasoline price average: $4.897
California: $6.318
Texas $4.542
Florida $4.667
New York $4.957
The Five States with the Highest Average Regular Gas Price:
California $6.318
Nevada $5.579
Alaska $5.574
Hawaii $5.572
Oregon $5.502
Gas Buddy tweeted some encouraging news back on June 23rd:
A twenty cent drop to $4.65/gallon isn’t going to get people excited.
Speaking of unhappy travelers, have you noticed the drop in unruly passengers on airplane flights since the mask mandate was lifted?
I did a search in Google News “rowdy passenger on airplane” and found that there was a noticeable number of incidents taking place during the winter months through March and into early April. On the 19th of April, a federal judge struck down the CDC’s travel mandate requiring masks, and in the search results, you can discern a huge drop off in news reports covering unruly plane travelers.
A United Airlines tweet from April 18:
Your bare face looks marvelous, darling. Keep the masks off and let’s make flying a friendly experience again.
If you want to keep your feet on the ground, hiking or walking is the cheapest way to get around while vacationing.
Love a good nature walk? This next story is for hikers who watch too many Disney movies…
If you happen to be traveling to Yellowstone National Park, please, for the love of God, STAY AWAY FROM THE BISON! THEY ARE NOT LIKE COWS! THEY ARE NOT CUTE AND CUDDLY CREATURES!
Still not convinced? Here is a shocking video released by NBC Montana yesterday of a Bison charging a few tourists. You will see a brave man who saves a small child from possible death. Reports vary, but some say the man did get gored and it does look like perhaps he did. WATCH:
You just watched a true hero in action. Add a compelling soundtrack and expand the story arch a bit - and this video might earn one billion dollars like the totally make-believe Top Gun: Maverick did.
Okay, maybe not. But it should. The 34-year-old guy injured his arm while saving the little girl, according to The U.S. Sun.
That’s a real hero. Not a fake fighter pilot.
I wanted to encourage you to send money to the real hero instead of giving your money to a movie this weekend - but I cannot find information on who this guy is or how to contact him.
I’ll let you know if I find something. If you come across a Go Fund Me for his medical bills or whatever - let us know in the comments.
Keep inspecting.
