We all have Ukraine on the brain right now.
Today’s news may not be shocking (as we saw this coming), but once it went down this morning, the gravity of the situation grabbed our attention in a choke hold.
Will this continue to escalate into WW3?
That is still unknown.
As I pointed out on Taco Newsday this week, a Ukraine/Russia conflict occurred before - right after WW2 when Russia invaded a string of eastern European nations like Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Ukraine, turning them into a “Soviet Union” that lasted around 60 years.
When Russia took over these nations after the second world war, the U.S. didn’t intervene militarily - and no physical war ever started.
That’s why I’m not concluding this event is leading to a direct conflict between the U.S. and Russia.
Just another “cold war”, which is a chilly experience (as we know from our recent past), but still a better outcome than WW3.
We will watch this news closely. With NATO still intact - Russia could (wisely) stop at Ukraine.
Here at News Detectives, we don’t take any news source or narrative as gospel. We don’t take any news at face value.
Let’s step out of the media matrix a bit and focus on some stories that aren’t getting much attention.
Must-See Weird Ukraine Stories
~ News Detectives is only 3 weeks old, and Sean Penn is already here for a second time after his controversial statements about American men.
The weird thing about today’s Russian attack on Ukraine is how Penn sat right in the middle of today’s drama.
He looked like one of Lt. Pete Maverick’s retired AF fishing buddies while sitting in the front row of the Ukraine President’s press conference:
~ Meanwhile, author Stephen King wasn’t looking so cool on Twitter.
Can you believe this guy?
The comments below the tweet are brutal and hilarious.
I saw this tweet comment from The Post Millennial blog, and it will make you cringe:
~ Chernobyl, where the worst nuclear disaster in human history took place, is on shaky ground thanks to this conflict.
Apparently, Russian forces took over the old, radioactive power plant during today’s fighting.
“It is impossible to say that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is safe,” said Myhailo Pololyak, presidential advisor to Ukraine.
~ These photos published on the FOX News website are a reminder to us all how political games bring serious consequences to innocent people.
~ I couldn’t help but notice today how mainstream media outlets like ABC News and FOX News are pushing stories about Russian citizens in Moscow protesting the attack Putin is doing to Ukraine.
What is interesting about this is how these news outlets have virtually ignored most of the protesting taking place around the globe and in the U.S. since early 2021. ABC News was seen live-streaming on Facebook from somewhere in Moscow, but it looked like about 20 people were standing around, doing nothing. Their post looked like total click bait. It was a nothingburger.
Yet they ignore what was happening in Ottawa, Paris, New Zealand, and other locations where protests were much larger.
I know - because those protests don’t fit their narrative.
Got it.
~ This morning I caught a recent episode of Glenn Beck and he had as a guest an author named Benjamin Teitelbaum who writes about Traditionalism, and something called The Fourth Political Theory. A Russian named Aleksandr Dugin is the “guru” behind this philosophy, and they Glenn was talking to Teitelbaum about the signs that Russian President Putin is a believer in this philosophy.
Then I came across this article, and it looks like a good read. I will devour it tonight while soaking in a hot tub. It could give us some clues as to the motivations of Putin and why he's doing what he’s doing: Putin’s Spiritual Destiny

Matthew, you are absolutely right about the ruse our current administration is perpetrating to deflect the attention of the American people (and the world) from all of the blunders Biden and Co. have committed. They do not want us to remember the border crisis, the covid debacle, the supply-chain disaster, inflation, increased food prices, increased automobile prices, inflated gas prices, rampant increases in housing prices, the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and plummeting poll numbers of Biden and Harris.
Make no mistake, Biden is "poking the eye of a dragon" because the globalist elites WANT a war so they can profit astronomically. Biden WANTS a war so he can use the old Clinton ruse -- "What can we do to fool them today?" It is all smoke and mirrors!
