Tuning into the Twitter Soap Opera
Wow - my apologies. Been busy the last few day - which explains my sporadic posts.
The obviously big news story today (and one I am quite fascinated by) is the Elon Musk takeover of Twitter.
He pulled it off, and I find this whole thing DELISH!
In fact, it dawned on me that four shocking developments in tech and entertainment all happened at the same time - and people who don’t like authoritarian technocrats and degenerate entertainers are ROTFL with delight:
It’s time to get your tub of popcorn and watch this drama continue to unfold, as the progressive meltdown surrounding the sale of Twitter is a real thing.
~ Twitter staff are told in emergency meeting that their jobs are only safe for six months until Musk completes his takeover. “Twitter staff have been told that their jobs are safe for at least six months, until Elon Musk takes over under the terms of a $44 billion deal to take control of the company, agreed on Monday.”
“CEO Parag Agrawal and Bret Taylor, the chair of the board, addressed staff at 5pm ET on Monday - dodging questions about whether Donald Trump would be allowed to rejoin, and saying instead that it was a question for Musk.”
'Some of you are concerned, some are you are excited, and some of you are waiting to see how this goes. I know this affects all of you personally.”
'It is an emotional day, and I just want to acknowledge it.'
“Concerns about immediate job losses were allayed, with employees told that business will operate as usual until a deal closes in next six months, Bloomberg's Kurt Wagner reported.”
“Staff were told there would be no layoffs 'at this time' - but no guarantees were provided when Musk takes over,” reports the Daily Mail.
The article goes into more anecdotes of Twitter employees crying, getting physically ill and rebelling against Musk. Some of these employees started trolling Musk on the platform he just bought.
They won’t be working there much longer.
Trump Not Interested in Being Reinstated
Everyone could see how much Donald Trump loved using Twitter. His closest advisors support this observation. “Truth Social is working out it’s kinks, they are onboarding people … but he loved his Twitter,” an anonymous Trump adviser told the Washington Post.
Trump has been saying publicly, “I want everybody to come over to TRUTH - conservatives, liberals, whatever. The response on Truth is much better than being on Twitter.”
But as I read this article from WaPo - this part stood out to me: “Some observers outside Trump’s orbit said they doubt he could resist the temptation to use a service that might again help him dominate the online conversation in the 2024 presidential race.
“That’s just him being a spoilsport. Of course he wants to be back on Twitter,” said Darren Linvill, lead researcher for the Clemson University Media Forensics Hub, which has studied the flow of online disinformation. “The thing that got him elected before has likely just been handed back to him.”
Now that Musk will soon be taking over the company, I don’t think Trump’s Truth Social will prosper. It’s a shame it didn’t get off to a strong start months before Musk made his move. Truth was already floundering and I don’t think the platform will take off now that many people who felt abused and neglected by Twitter are now already talking about their return to the land of blue checkmarks.
Prediction
There is no question that Musk will allow Trump to return to Twitter - and I don’t think he will be able to resist that temptation. The Donald once had over 20 million followers there. His audience on Truth Social isn’t going to grow a fraction of that number anytime soon.
I predict Trump will return to Twitter before the 2022 November election. Since he’s not running this year, I’ll say maybe he doesn’t come back till he starts running in 2024.
But you heard it hear - Trump will return to Twitter before the 2024 election.
The Post Millennial put together a fantastic collection of Twitter employee’s going ‘insane’ over Musk’s takeover. Here are some of the hilarious tweets:
Musk began his takeover back in March after the Babylon Bee had their Twitter account deleted by these alleged tolerant employees. After years of one-sided censorship while allowing hateful, violent, and pornographic posts to remain on their platform - many people are not going to feel much sympathy for these people now bemoaning “oligarchs” and “rich people” who value free speech.
Time to dust off your resume, team Twitter.
