Who is getting Monkeypox?
A particular demographic is showing up in virtually all the U.S. cases.
The tragic shooting in Texas is sucking up all the oxygen from today’s news.
However, I’m going to stick to my promise to continue sharing monkeypox news at this time.
First of all, if you are into tracking cases - there is a “presumptive” positive case of chimpox in South Florida.
Not sure why Palm Beach Daily News is calling it “presumptive”? If it is presumed to be monkeypox, that means those involved are not 100% sure what it is.
“The singular case is related to international travel, and the person is isolated, a state health department spokesperson said. The CDC will test a specimen for confirmation. No other cases had been identified.
The risk of contracting monkeypox "remains very low to the overall community," a state health department spokesperson said. If a person has received the smallpox vaccine, the Broward health department said there is "likely cross-protection against monkeypox."

Meanwhile, the W.H.O. has come out and said the unprecedented monkeypox outbreak in developed countries was likely spread by sex at 2 raves in Europe.
“U.K. officials have said “a notable proportion” of the cases in Britain and Europe have been in young men with no history of travel to Africa and who are gay, bisexual or have sex with men. Authorities in Portugal and Spain also said their cases were in men who mostly had sex with other men and whose infections were picked up when they sought help for lesions at sexual health clinics.”
“Heymann, who is also a professor of infectious diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said the monkeypox outbreak was likely a random event that might be traceable to a single infection.”
“It’s very possible there was somebody who got infected, developed lesions on the genitals, hands or somewhere else, and then spread it to others when there was sexual or close, physical contact,” Heymann hypothesized. “And then there were these international events that seeded the outbreak around the world, into the U.S. and other European countries.”
“He emphasized that the disease was unlikely to trigger widespread transmission.
“This is not COVID,” he said. “We need to slow it down, but it does not spread in the air and we have vaccines to protect against it.” Heymann said studies should be conducted rapidly to determine if monkeypox could be spread by people without symptoms and that populations at risk of the disease should take precautions to protect themselves.”
~ There is no evidence that monkeypox is spreading widely in the U.S.
According to the CDC, who is investigating FOUR SUSPECTED CASES of orangutangpox in America. “The majority of current cases have been reported in men who have sex with other men.”
“Monkeypox has not been historically considered a sexually transmitted disease. However, it's transmitted through close physical contact, and can be spread during sex. Two raves held in Spain and Belgium among gay and bisexual men have been connected to the current cases.”
"It really requires a discrete encounter with the lesions themselves or the bedding or clothing that they share," Dr. John Brooks, a medical epidemiologist in the CDC's Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, told NBC News.”
“Monkeypox can also be transmitted through respiratory droplets from someone who has lesions in their mouth, the CDC said. This is much different than highly contagious Covid-19.”
“It’s not a situation where if you’re passing someone in the grocery store, you’re going to be at risk for monkeypox,” McQuiston said.”

The U.S. government already ordered $119 million worth of freeze-dried monkeypox vaccines.
The European Union is also preparing a vaccine strategy - but their report isn’t recommending a mass vaccination program for people not at particular risk.
~ The U.N. Wants Politically Correct Coverage on Monkeypox
The U.N. doesn’t appear to approve of how the media is reporting the facts that cases are predominately gay or bisexual men. Not offering a single example of what they consider “racist and homophobic” reporting, The United Nations’ Aids Agency (UNAIDS) on Monday said a “significant portion of recent monkeypox cases are identified among “men who have sex with men.” Thus, some portrayals of Africans and LGBTI people are “reinforcing homophobic and racist stereotypes and exacerbate stigma.”
The monkeypox momentum may already be losing some steam. There is no shortage of distractions these days.
