At around the 12 minute mark, Tom Luongo says this regarding news sources.

"You have to understand the motivations and allegiances of each of the players [news sources] in the game. It is not controversial to say The Washington Post is a house organ for the See Eye Aye [not to single them out]. It's not controversial... this is the way these things work. And understanding that allows you then to read a news article , glean the facts out of the news article, and ignore the commentary. Then ask yourself why are they trying to present these facts this way, at this moment of time, and for what purpose?

That's a perfect explanation of how we must always apply critical thinking to whatever news we consume. I need to do more of that.

That comment stood out to me as well, Alan. What he's saying and what you said about applying critical thinking to our news consumption is one of the primary missions of News Detectives. Keep your magnifying glass clean.
