It does seem as a pressure inversion moving through the tunnel to me. With its long length and small diameter, a slow moving air channel could cause the effect. It could be on a ley line as well?

You make a good point about the building of the tunnel--if there was this force going on then, how did they create a stable tunnel to begin with?

That would be cool, but no. You can go through it which that segment doesn't point out.
But that doesn't mean a portal is ruled out, in my opinion.
